Project SWD is Go

Well, my main blog and my custom one are finished, and all st. Now to work on this blog.  That means I'll be using the scrap kits of other people to make awesome tags and sigs. These aren't mine, but I made the tags as a whole. That's pretty much it on that one :).

So...who wants me to make an excellent tag for you? Email me and I can check it out. I am currently looking for new and still active groups and stores in the PSP/digital arts genre.

Tag 1

How To

1. Open a new PSP image 500x500px.

2. Open ‘kma_bright_paper10.jpg’ into PSP.  Duplicate it (Shift + D), and close
out the original.  Resize the duplicated paper to 500x500px.  Copy and paste
this as a new layer into your blank image.  You can now close out the  duplicated paper, and delete the bottom layer.  Rename the paper layer ‘Paper
BG’.

3. Open ‘kmd_bright_glitterheart1.png’, and copy and paste it as a new layer. 
Resize it to 50%.  Move it to the upper left hand corner of your image, making
sure to leave a tiny bit of room at the top and left edges.  Name this layer
‘Heart UL’.

4. Duplicate, then mirror the pink heart layer.  Now flip it, then rotate it 180°, making sure when you rotate that ‘Rotate All Layers’ is unchecked.  Close out the original element, and name this layer ‘Heart LR’..

5. Open ‘kmd_bright_glitterheart17.png’ into PSP, and copy and paste it as a
new layer into your image.  Do the same thing you did for the first heart, only
this time, move this heart to the upper right corner, making it level with the
ones at the upper left and lower right (you may have to adjust all 4 in the end, but that’s no biggie).  Name this layer ‘Heart UR’.  Now do the same thing
you did for the purple heart: duplicate the layer, mirror and then flip, then
rotate 180°.  Name this layer ‘Heart LL’.  Close out the original element.

You should now have this:

6. Open ‘kmd_bright_flowerpot.png’ into PSP.  Copy and paste it as a new layer
into  your image, and resize it to 75%.  Move it down to the bottom, keeping it
centered horizontally, and making sure the bottom of the pot is touching the
bottom edge of the image.  Name this layer ‘Flowerpot’, and close out the
original element.

7. Now open ‘kmg_bright_frog.png’ into PSP, and copy and paste it into your
image as a new layer.  Resize it to 85%, and move him down so that the
bottom of the frog is touching the bop of the flowerpot.  Name thislayer ‘Frog’, and close out the original element.

8. Open ‘kmd_bright_flower1.png’ into PSP, and copy and paste it as a new layer.  Move this layer underneath the frog and above the flowerpot layers.  Move the flower layer so it’s on the right side of the flowerpot, with the bottom petal that hangs down just touching or a bit over the right side of the flowerpot.  Name this layer ‘Flowers R’.  Then duplicate the Flower layer, and mirror it, so that you now have this:

9. Name the duplicated layer ’Flowers L’.  Close out the original element.

10. Your Layer Palette should be as follows by this point:
Frog
Flower L
Flower R
Flowerpot
Heart LL
Heart UR
Heart LR
Heart UL
Paper BG

11. Open ‘kmd_bright_doodle2.png’ into PSP, and copy and paste it as a new
layer in your tag.  Move it to the top of your Layer Palette if it’s not there
already.  Resize it by 75%, and then flip it.  Center it vertically between the
top and bottom right hand hearts.  Now duplicate this layer, and mirror it. 
Name these two layers ‘Doodle R’, and ‘Doodle L’ respectively.  Close out the original element.

12. Get your Preset Shapes tool, and set it to Ellipse, and Circle, and Create as Vector.  Set your FG color to white (#ffffff), and turn off your BG color. 
Draw a circle around the frog, so the frog is kind of at the bottom center of
the circle, like this:

It doesn’t have to be PERFECT, but get it as close to it as you can.  You can always move it with the dot in the middle. Now get your Text tool, and choose yellow (#ffff00) for your FG and BG colors.  Position your mouse as close to the top center node of the circle as you can get, and when you see the little quarter circle below the A, click and type in ‘SMILE EVERYDAY!’.  Highlight this text in the field, and choose Comic Sans MS font, size 28, Stroke width 3, and Bold.

13. Now delete the Vector layer where you drew your circle, and promote the
floating text to Layer.  Name this layer ‘Text’.  Now add an Inner Bevel with
the following settings:

Bevel: #1
Width: 10
Smoothness: 0
Depth: 10
Ambience: 30
Shininess: 50
Color: White (#ffffff)
Angle: 0
Intensity: 60
Elevation: 35

Selections - Select None.

NOTE: At this point, if your text isn’t centered (it’s hard to center text on  a curve just right sometimes), you can use the Raster Deform tool to move it with the dot in the middle, and/or use the handle sticking out of the middle mover dot to angle it so that the start and end points are horizontally straight.

You should now have this:

14. Now let’s add a border.  Make a new Raster layer, and name it ‘Border’.  Go
to Image - Add Borders, and add a 35px border in red (#ff0000).  Get your
Magic Wand tool, and click inside the border.  Add an Inner Bevel with the
same settings as you used for your text.  Selections - Select None.

15. Lastly, add the proper credits.  Get your Text tool, and make your FG and BG color yellow (#ffff00).  On the bottom part of the border, left click and type

into the text field.  Highlight all the text, and change the font to Times New Roman, size 14, Stroke Width 1.  Promote the floating selection to layer, and Select None., and name this layer ‘Scrapper Credit’  Now, on the top part of the border, put your own tagger’s credit.  You can use the Times New Roman font again, or one of your choice.   Or, you can use your watermark if you have one.  Just make sure it fits inside the top part of the border.  If you’re using text to put your tagger’s credit on, be sure to Promote Selection to Layer, Select None, then name the layer ‘Tagger Credit’, or your name, designer name, etc.  If you use a tube for a watermark, add a new raster layer, add your tube, and position it so it’s centered properly.  Resize the image to 500x500px, and then go to Adjust – Sharpen, and sharpen once.

You should now have this, with the exception of the fact that your name will be where mine is at the top:

That’s it, you’re all done!

Scrap Happiness - Tag 1 with Tutorial

This was one of the most fun tags I've done!  Being an art, craft, and music lover, this put me right at home.  This tut is a bit long, but I assure you, it is totally worth the time and effort! :)

The How To

1. Open a new transparent image 500x500.

2. Open 'paper13.png' into PSP.  Resize it to 500x500px, then copy & paste it as a New Layer into your blank tag image.  Name this layer 'Paper BG'.  Close out the original paper.  When asked if you want to change it, click 'No'.  Now delete the transparent bottom layer on your Layer Palette, as you won't need it.

3. Open 'watercolors.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste as a New Layer into your tag, and resize it to 15%.  Rotate it 35°, then move it to the upper left corner of your tag.  Leave a little room at the top & left edges.  Name this layer 'Watercolors', and close out the original element.

4. Open 'crayons.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste as New Layer into your tag.  Resize it to 35%, rotate it to the right 35°, and move it to the upper right corner, again not touching the edges.  Name this layer 'Crayon Box', and close out the original element.  Here's the tag so far:

5. Open 'crayons1.png' into PSP, copy & paste it as a New layer into your tag, and resize it to 10%.  Rotate it to the right 90°, and move it below the box of crayons, like this:

Name this layer 'Crayon 1', and close out the original element.

6. Open 'crayons2.png' into PSP, and copy & paste it as a New Layer into your tag.  Resize it to 10%, then rotate it to the right by 120°.  Move it over the first crayon, so they cross about in the middle.  Name this layer 'Crayon 2', and close out the original element.  You should now have this:

7. Open 'crayons3.png' into PSP.  Again, copy & paste it as a New layer, and resize to 10%.  Rotate it to the right by 45°, and move it just to the left of the crayon box & just above the point of Crayon 2.  Name this layer 'Crayon 3', and close out the original element.

8. Open 'crayons4.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste it as a New layer into your tag, resize it to 10%, and move it on top of Crayon 3 without rotating it, so that they cross about in the middle.  Name this layer 'Crayon 4', and close out the original element.

9. Open 'crayons5.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste as a New layer, resize to 10%, and then rotate it to the right by 20°.  Move it up so that it's near the right hand edge of the crayon box, but on top of it with the top half of the crayon on the box, the point half off the box.  Name this layer 'Crayon 5', and close out the original element.

10. Open 'blankpaper2.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste it as a New layer into your tag.  Resize it to 25%, then rotate it to the left 15°.  Now, move it so that the upper right corner of the paper's covering up the points of the bottom crayons.  Move this layer so it's above the Paper BG layer & below all the other layers.

11. Get your Eraser tool now, and choose the +10 Square.  Change the Hardness to 100, and begin carefully erasing the greyish-tan area where the paper corner should be where it's curled at the corner.  Keep zooming in and making the Eraser size smaller, until there's no grey-tan left, only the black of the shadow part of the curl.  Your tag should now look like this:

12. Activate your top layer, so that the next one will be on the top.  Open 'paint1.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste it as a New layer into your tag, then resize it to 5%.  Move it into the right hand white panel of the watercolors set.  It should be fairly centered in the white area.  Name this layer 'Paint 1', and close out the original elemnt.

13.  Now open 'paint2.png' into PSP, and copy & paste it as a New Layer into your tag.  Resize it to 5%, and then rotate it to the left by 45°.  Move it to the left hand white pane of the watercolors set, pretty much centered in the white area.  Name this layer 'Paint 2', and close out the original element.

14. Open 'paintbrush.png' into PSP.  Copy and paste it as a New layer into your tag, and resize it to 30%. Rotate it to the right by 35°, and move it so that the tip of the brush is on the red paint circle next to the white one.  Name this layer 'Paintbrush', and close out the original element.

Here's what you should have now:

15. Open 'ruler.png' into PSP, and copy and paste it as a New layer into your tag.  Resize it to 50%, then rotate it to the left 15°.  Move it so that it's centered over the paper, with the ends sticking out about equal length, but it doesn't have to be perfectly exact.  Name this layer 'Ruler', and close out the original element.

16. Open 'pencil.png' into PSP.  Copy and paste it as a New Layer into your tag.  Resize it by 50%, and then rotate it to the right by 20°.  Move it so that the point of the pencil is just touching the bottom edge of the ruler at the number 12.  Name this layer 'Pencil', and close out the original element.

17. Open 'scissors3.png' into PSP.  Copy and paste it as a New Layer into your tag.  Resize it to 20%, and move it up so it's in between the watercolors set and the crayons and crayon box.  Name this layer 'Scissors', and close out the original element.  Here's what you should have now:

18. Open 'tape3.png' into PSP.  Copy and paste it into your tag, and resize it to 25%.  Move it to the left of the paper and ruler, so that the place where the tape meets in the middle is approx. vertically lined up with the top left corner of the ruler.  Name this layer 'Tape', and close out the original element.

19. Open 'rose1.png' into PSP, then copy and paste it as a New layer into your tag.  Resize it to 10%, then move it over the X of the tape, making sure it's not touching the ruler (it doesn't have to be centered exactly over the X, just make sure it's not touching the ruler, and that there's at least a litle tape sticking out from the top left).  Name this layer 'Rose', and close out the original element.

20. Open 'string4.png' into PSP.  Copy and paste it as a New Layer into your tag, and then resize it to 10%.  Move it so that it's loose left end is over the right hand scissor blade, near the point, like this:

Name this layer 'String', and close out the original element.

21. Open 'coffee.png' into PSP.  Copy and paste it as a New layer into your tag.  Resize it to 15%, and then move it so that the handle is almost touching the right hand edge of the tag, and the botom left of the saucer's rim is almost touching the pencil.  Name this layer 'Coffee', and close out the original element.  Your tag should now look like this:

22. Now let's add some cool looking text.  Get your Text tool, and set your foreground and background colors to the red 5th from the left on the Color Picker (#ff4040).  Use the following settings:

Font: Comic Sans
Size: 60
Stroke width: 4.0
Create as: Vector
Align: Center

Click in the empty bottom space of your tag.  Type 'Arts'.  Now, find the handle inside the rectangle around your text.  When you see the pointer of your mouse change to double-pointed curved arrows, click and drag it up until the text is about 45% instead of straight across.  Now, in your Layer Palette, right click the Vector layer, and Convert to Raster, then name it 'Arts'.  Get your Mover tool, and move this to the left of the tag, so the 'A' in 'Arts' is near the bottom and left edges.

Back to your Text tool, same settings, and this time, type 'and'.  Convert the Vector to Raster layer in your Layer Palette, name this layer 'and', then use the Mover tool to move the 'and' so the 'a' is right below the 's' in 'Arts'.

Back to Text tool again, same settings, and this time click in the empty space left at the bottom to the right of the 'and'.  Type in 'Crafts!'.  Find the handle to move your text like you did with 'Arts', and move it up so that the text is at about a 55° angle or so (a bit more vertical than 'Arts' is).  Convert to Raster layer, and position it so the top of the exclamation point is almost lined up with the eraser on the pencil, like this:

23. Activate your 'Arts' layer.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel, and use the following settings:

Bevel: #2
Width: 8
Smoothness: 15
Depth: 15
Ambience: 20
Shininess: 35
Color: White (#ffffff)
Angle: 45
Intensity: 70
Elevation: 30

Now, activate your 'and' layer, and use the same Inner Bevel.  Do the same with your 'Crafts!' layer.  You should now have this:

24. Now for a border.  Go to Image - Picture Frame, and choose Colored Blocks.  Lastly, we're going to add the proper credits.  Get your Text tool, set your text to Times New Roman, size 16, color black (#000000) for both fore- and background, and Stroke width 1. Set the Create as to Floating.

25. Click in the bottom portion of your frame, and type in 'Scrapped by KrazyMom Designz'.  Move it so that it's vertically and horizontally centered in the bottom of the frame.  Promote the Floating Selection to Layer, and name it 'Scrapper's Credit'.  Selections - Select None.  Now, click in the top portion of your frame, and type 'Tagged by (your name, designer name, etc.)'.  Again, center it as you did the bottom text, and Promote the Floating selection to Layer.  Name this layer 'Tagger's Credit'.

26. Let's resize this so that it's a good 500x500 pixel tag.  Go to Image - Resize, and resize to 500x478px (when you put the 500 in the Width, the Height will change to 478).  Make sure 'Resize all layers' is checked this time.  Now go to Adjust - Sharpness, and Sharpen ONE time.

You're all done!  :)  Your final image should look as so:

Bloody Night - Tag 1

This tag was hard to make, but fun nonetheless.  As I am more drawn to the dark and macabre, I found this one a lot of fun.  This tag comes from a kit by Seachell Designz, called Bloody Night.  Great kit, hon! :)

KMD's Thoughtful Memories - 2 Tags

I gotta tell ya, this was one of the more touching ones I've worked with.  Tag 1 especially was very touching for me, because it reminded me of all the good memories I have from my childhood, drawing simple stick figures on notepaper whenever I could lay hands on paper and pencil, pen, crayon, or marker (see the upside down drawing on the notepad in the tag).  I REALLY loved working with this one!  KrazyMom Designs, you did it again, great kit! :)

Christmas Time Tag 2 with Tutorial

This is the 2nd 'Christmas Time' scrap kit tag I've made, and this one I kept very simple.  I wanted to express the simplicity rather than the material side of Christmas on this one.  Again, the kit was done by Staceys Designs, and I loved doing both the tag and the tutorial for this one!

The How To

1. Open ‘SD Paper 2.jpg’.  Duplicate it, and close out the original.

2. Resize your duplicate to 500x500px, making sure ‘Resize all layers’ is checked.  Promote ‘Background’ layer to a Raster, and name it ‘BG Paper’, and save it as a pspimage.

NOTE: When resizing the elements once they’re pasted as new layers into your tag, make sure ‘Resize all layers’ is UNCHECKED.

3. Open 'SD White and Gold Tree.png'.  Copy & paste it as a new layer into your tag image.  Resize it by 50%, and move it to the upper left corner, with the star just touching the top edge, and the bottom left corner of the tree just touching the left side edge.  Name this layer 'Tree UL'.

4. Duplicate ‘Tree UL’, and Mirror it.  Duplicate the mirrored layer, and Flip it.  Rotate it 180°.  Make sure the bottom right point of the tree just touches the right side edge.  Name layer 'Tree LR’.  Delete the 1st Copy of Tree UL.

5. Open 'SD White star tree.png'.  Copy & paste as a new Raster layer.  Move this to the lower left corner, so that the top point of the tree lines up with the top point of ‘Tree UL’.  Name this layer 'Tree LL'.

6. Duplicate ‘Tree LL’.  Mirror it, duplicate the Mirrored layer, and Flip it.  Now, rotate it 180°.  Make sure the top points of the right hand trees line up.  Delete Copy 1 of ‘Tree LL’.  Name this upper right tree layer Tree UR’.

7. Open 'SD Red Candles.png', copy it and paste it as a new Raster layer.  Resize it to 25%, and leave it centered as it is.  Name layer 'Candles'.

8. Open 'SD Cream Bow.png'.  Copy & paste as anew Raster layer, and resize to 50%.  Move the bow so that it’s centered between the candles and the top of the image.  Duplicate your Bow layer and Flip it, then rotate it 180°, and center it between the candles and the bottom of your tag image, making sure the bow centers line up.

NOTE: It's perfectly OK if the bow edges overlap the trees a little.

Your Layer Palette should now look like this:

Be sure and save at this point.  You’re going to add a Border, which will merge all of your layers.  You can then later choose to save the bordered image as a separate pspimage.

9. Go to Image – Add Borders, and add a 30px border, color med. green (3 down, 3 right on the color picker (#008000).  Get your Magic Wand, click on the border, and add an Inner Bevel with the following settings:

Bevel: Triangle (1)
Width: 31
Smoothness: 0
Depth: 10
Ambience: 0
Shininess: 18
Color: Same as border (#008000)
Angle: 45
Intensity: 55
Elevation: 65

10. Select None.  If you want to, save your tag as a separate .pspimage with the border, so you still have a pspimage with the layers. Go to File - Save As... and put (border) after the image name, or rename it in some way that you'll know it's bordered and doesn't have the original layers preserved.

11. Promote your new Background layer to a Raster layer, and name it 'Tag' or 'Bordered Tag' (your choice).

12. Add a new Raster layer, name it 'SD (or Scrapper) Credit' (your choice).  Get your Text tool, set the foreground & Background colors to black, and the font to either Monotype Corsiva or Times New Roman (your choice), and set size to 18.  On the bottom section of the border, type in 'Scrapped by Staceys Designs'.  Make sure it's centered horizontally & vertically.  Selections - Select None.

13. Add a new Raster layer, and name it '(your name/initials/designer initials, or Tagger's) Credit' (your choice).  Click on the top section of your border, and type in 'Tagged by (your name/initials/designer name)' (your choice).  Make sure it's centered vertically & horizontally like you did the top one.  Selections - Select None.

14. Resize your image to 500x500px (make sure Resize all layers is checked).  Sharpen ONCE, then save your pspimage, and then save as a jpeg.

You’re all finished!  Your final image should look like this:

This tag was made from the scrap kit 'Christmas Time' by Staceys Designs.  The tag was pretty complex, and involved a ton of steps, so I didn't do a tut for this one.  However, I fully enjoyed the making of the tag.  So, without further hesitation...

The How To

1. Open a new image 500x500px in your PSP.

2. Open 'SD Paper 12.jpg' into your PSP.  Resize it to 500x500px.

3. Copy the resized paper and paste it as a new Raster layer into youru blank image.  Name this layer 'BG Paper'.  Close out the paper.  When asked if you want to save the changes, click 'No'.

4. Open 'SD Tye Dye Peace Girl.png' into your PSP.  Copy & paste it as a new layer, then resize it to 50%.  Move her to the left side, vertically centered between the two corner peace signs.  Name this layer 'Girl L'.

5. Go ahead and close out your girl element.  Now duplicate 'Girl L' layer, and mirror it.  Name this layer 'Girl R'.  There should now be a Tye Dye Girl on each side of your tag image.

6. Open 'SD Tye Dye Lava Lamp.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste it as a new Raster layer into your tag.  Resize that layer to 25%, and name this layer 'Lava Lamp UL'.

7. With the Mover tool, move the lamp to the upper left, almost touching the top, and next to the upper left peace sign.  Go ahead and close out the lamp element now, and name thislayer 'Lamp UL'.

You should now have your tag looking like this:

8. Duplicate 'Lamp UL' layer, and mirror it.  Namethis new layer 'Lamp UR'.

9. Duplicate 'Lamp UR', and Flip the copy.  Now, go to Image - Rotate - Free Rotate, and rotate it to the right 180 degrees.  Make sure 'All Layers' is unchecked.  Rename this layer 'Lamp LR'.

10. Duplicate 'Lamp LR', and mirror it.  Name this new layer 'Lamp LL'.

This is what you should have now:

11. Open up 'SD Groovy work art.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste this as a new Raster layer into your tag.  This one will definitely need resizing, so resize it to 40%.  Now, go to Image - Rotate - Free Rotate, and and rotate it to the left 20 degrees, and center it between the two upper lamps.  Name this layer 'Groovy'.  Close out the original element.

12. Open up 'SD Peace Word Art.png' into PSP.  Copy & paste it as a new Raster layer, and again, you'll need to resize it to 40%.  Use the Mover tool and place it between the two lower lamps.  Now rotate this one like you did the top word art, only this time, free rotate it theother direction.  Free Rotate it to the right 20 degrees, and center it between the two lower lamps.  Name this layer 'Peace'.  Close out the word art elementnow.

13. Open 'SD Bow 1.png' into PSP, and copy & paste it as a new Raster layer in your tag.  Again, you'll need to resize, so so go ahead and resize it to 40%, and place it on the top of the peace sign, as if the peace sign were a head wearing the bow.  The bow will just barely cover up the top of the peace sign.  Close out the bow element now.  Name t his layer 'Bow'.

Now you should have this:

14. Now it's border time.  Go to Image - Add Borders, and add a 30px border in purple (the 1st on the left, on the bottom row of the Color Palette chooser (#ff00ff).  You'll now have a single background layer.  Promote this layer and name it 'Tag'.

15. Now to add the proper credits.  Get out your Text tool, and set your font to Thickhead.  If you don't have this font, Monotype Corsiva or even Times New Roman will do.  At the bottom on your border, type in 'Tagged by (your name)'.  Promote this to Layer, and name it '(Your Name) Credit'.  At the top, on the border, type in 'Scrapped by Stacey's Designs'.  Again, promote this floating selection to a layer, and name it 'SD Credit'.  Go to Selections - Select None.

I recommend sharpening ONCE at this point, and then saving it as a .pspimage, and then as a .jpg.

You're all done!  Your tag should now look like this:
